More Than Just Surviving is a survival blog that features wilderness survival and bushcraft articles, but also talks a lot about gear, prepping, and a slew of other topics that relate back to the theme of living a survivalist lifestyle. The blog is run by a two-person husband-and-wife team. Let me introduce ourselves…

In the picture above you’ll see our little family of three. Thomas, me (Elise) and our adorable cat, Avery. In terms of this blog, Thomas the person you’ll see in the vast majority of the pictures posted: his hands are in all of our knife reviews, he’s the one always working away at the fire steel, and he does all the chopping and batoning in the images. I, on the other hand, am the person consistently behind the camera. Every once in a while you might see a limb of mine in a shot, a part of my hand or foot, but a rare glimpse is typically all you’ll get to see of me on here since I’m always behind the camera.

Thomas is essentially the brains behind this operation. He’s knife-obsessed, and has been into survival since he was a wee lad. When he was a kid, he actually managed to cut off the whole upper third of his left pointer finger with a knife (don’t worry it grew back, though at a weird angle), yet somehow his fascination with knives has only grown since. You can’t imagine the number of times he cuts himself playing with knives in any given week, or how content he is to slice through paper over and over again while testing blade sharpness…

By contrast, I’ve been into the idea of survival since I was young, but have had very little practical experience/firsthand knowledge of it. Similarly, although I’ve grown to appreciate a good knife, it’s all about comfort and aesthetics with me: I’m no good judge of performance. That’s why you’ll never see me writing the reviews for any of the survival gear or knives we have, even if they’re my own. I’m just not technical enough, so I leave that job to the expert. I’ve learned a lot from listening to Thomas talk about survival gear and wilderness survival and am always expanding my knowledge through the research I do for this blog. That being said, I’m much more in tune with the prepping and self-sufficiency aspects of survival than I am with the bushcraft and wilderness survival aspects, which is why that’s the majority of what I write on here.

We try to keep the quality of the posts on this blog as high as we can, so we don’t publish nearly as often as other survival blogs do. That being said, we’re always on the lookout for new topics to cover and are always open to any ideas our readers might have for us. If you’d like to ask a question or have a specific post idea you’d like to request, drop us a line via the contact page or a comment on any of our articles.
