Bit of a mess this week. My keychain is getting really out of hand. Any thoughts on how to trim down?
Downside of living in an apartment building with multiple entry points – way too many keys.
Added the keychain light back into rotation, and keeping the Olight ST25-XML2 at home. Just don’t seem to use it much.

True Utility Key Tool
I have yet to use it, but it’s so small that if I one day need to, I know it’s there. In the meantime, doesn’t take up much pocket space. - Mini Flashlight
NiteCore Tube - Capsule
Waterproof Capsule
Carrying Imodium – here’s why + Rare earth magnet (to be used as compass). - EDC Multi-Tool
Wenger-Made Buck Branded Swiss Army Knife
Similar to: Victorinox Swiss Army Classic SD.
I usually carry a full-sized knife, but this is about back ups. Always nice to have a sharp blade just in case. - Cell Phone
Motorola Moto X Play
Hey Thomas, great March EDC. My favorite at the moment is the True Utility KeyTool, very cool looking, great key storage and a neat little gadget to either solve issues or keep you entertained if you’re a fidgeter like myself. More people should have this.
Thanks Kelli, True Utility releases some fun (and practical) stuff for sure.
how do you like the nitecore tube? iv been looking at picking on up because i like having a medium and smaller flashlight on me, and it looks good but dont really have a chance to handle one before ordering.
I love it, its solid and cranks out a decent amount of lumens. Weighs nothing and the rechargeable aspect is great.
I’ve owned one since they came out and its still rock solid.
Ok. You live in a apartment. Probably means that you are not in a rural occupation.
Although there are downsides, pick only one entrance to the building to use. Make duplicate keys. Hide keys off the property in plastic baggies for access in an emergency. Most people who live in houses hide a key in the yard. You are doing the same, assuming that the keys can be duplicated. Then, you carry fewer on you.
You are near to your car probably close to 24/7. It is not only a bug out vehicle, it is a go to ground vehicle. Take some of the stuff from your pocket that you haven’t used in a week, and secure it in the car. If you are like most people, you won’t be more than a few hundred feet or steps away from your car. Of course, if you take a bus or train to work, put some of the junk in the briefcase or backpack.
This afternoon, I go to a dance class. Every dance shoe bag has a small 18650 or AA flashlight and a leatherman within. In a few minutes, I go for a walk around the block. I don’t need a jillion things in my pocket, just a folder.
I went to the supermarket this am. I didn’t need a firestarter or a flashlight in my pocket. They are in the car!
This evening, I will have dinner with a friend – and when I walk in and put down my keys, there are two inexpensive AA flashlights right there on the counter.
So, take some of the gear and put it where you anticipate being. If you can leave stuff at the office, secured, do it. No one goes in a business office and rifles through an old box of musty files. No, the thief goes into the desk drawers.
Your car “go to ground” vehicle/storage is fantastic, I can’t leave keys on the property without incurring extreme liabilities if someone finds out so the car solution is great. I don’t need *all* those keys all the time- I can just use the 3 keys I need to get in + car keys and keep the rest in the glove box or somewhere else more discreet.
Having duplicates in easily accessed locations is a smart idea, I’ll look into doing that with some of my cheaper gear.
Key smart makes a great key holder that organizes your keys. Check it out!
Will do! Thanks for the recommendation Broadwing. I can’t believe that little thing can hold 100 keys?! Crazy.
